Desire
The exhibition "Desire" features sculptures created by Latvian sculptor Roberts Bāliņš, expressing the desires and passions of humanity. Through these abstract, anthropomorphic forms, Bāliņš explores desire as a powerful motivation that drives human action and relationships.
Each work is crafted to reflect the flow of emotions and allure, offering viewers an opportunity to contemplate their own inner struggles and longings. The desire depicted in these sculptures is not merely physical attraction, but also an emotional and spiritual experience that can influence human behavior and relationships in various ways. It serves as a motivation to act and strive for specific goals, such as the pursuit of new relationships or personal growth.
This exhibition not only highlights aesthetics but also provokes thought on how desire shapes our lives and society as a whole. It invites visitors to deepen their understanding of themselves and the surrounding world by reflecting on how our wants and passions influence our actions. "Desire" becomes a journey of not just art, but self-exploration, where everyone can find their own stories and experiences while gazing upon the forms created by Bāliņš.
Roberts Balins is a Latvian sculptor from Riga who specializes in abstract and anthropomorphic works, exploring the interplay between form and feeling by creating environments where emotions are revealed through defined shapes. His signature technique involves using tubular limbs (often pipes of the same diameter) that bend and break to represent complex, combined “primitive feelings” in anthropomorphic forms. Balins graduated from the Latvian Academy of Arts’ Master’s program in Sculpture in 2024 and has been actively participating in both Latvian and international exhibitions and projects since 2016, including events in Japan, Slovakia, and Budapest.
The exhibition opening is on December 5 at 6 p.m.
The exhibition will run until January 1.
